These tomatoes dipped in vodka aren't my idea, and I don't recall where it came from, but it gets raves at parties. One of the great things about it is even in winter you can buy edible cherry tomatoes (I think the Nature Sweet brand is the best) so it's a year-round appetizer. Although they do involve alcohol, it's only a touch - literally. And it's hard to imagine an easier dish. (Larger image.) Serves 6 - 10.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 5 minutes

Yield: Serves 6 - 10.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 - 1 lb. cherry tomatoes
  • Small container of vodka*
  • Small container of sea salt (your preference)

Preparation:

1. Wash and dry tomatoes. Arrange in a bowl and set salt and vodka with them along with toothpicks.

2. Dip a tomato in the vodka, then in the salt, then eat.

Choose whatever vodka you prefer, but I would avoid flavored vodka except for lemon.

I remember these from days gone by. They are great during the cocktail hour and not as fattening as most other nibblies - some people hate the word nibblies but for me it is also from days in the most happy past. Thank you for the memories, and as I have tomatoes, sea salt and vodka on hand, and it is after five, ummm. YaYa, as the grown grandchildren still call me.
